Substance Misuse Dataset (SMDS)

The Substance Misuse Dataset (SMDS) comprises records relating to all individuals, both young persons and adults, presenting for substance misuse treatment in Wales. It includes activity for all Welsh providers delivering Welsh Government-funded substance misuse treatment. Records are available for referrals received from April 2014 onwards. It includes details duration and type of substance use, assessments, treatments undertaken, housing status and self-reported measures of psychological health, physical health, quality of life, criminal activity and engagement with work or education. Codes are recorded using a standard coding frame which is specific to Wales, established and maintained by NWIS.
