Outpatient Referrals Dataset (OPRD)

The Outpatient Referrals Dataset (OPRD) comprises records of all referrals received by NHS hospitals in Wales for a first outpatient appointment for consultant or nurse led clinic activity, regardless of the patient’s area of residence. It includes referrals received from 2009 onwards. The data set includes referrals from any source and is not limited to only those referrals made by a GP. It is similar to the OPDW dataset but contains only information regarding referrals received, so will include records where no appointment was booked. Codes such as referral source and outcome of appointment are recorded using a standard coding frame which is specific to Wales, established and maintained by NWIS.
